I used my roomates ipad and she let my download two apps on it because she has younger nephews that could potentially enjoy either App. The first one I chose was called Beauty and the Beast Storybook Deluxe. Basically, it's an app that allows kids to interactively be involved while reading their favorite Disney classic movie. In this case, the movie was Beauty and the Beast. To make the story more fun, there are coloring pages and extra puzzles to go along with the story on the side. This would work in a classroom because you wouldn't have to just read a book outloud during story time, the kids could be read and follow along for themselves, and interactively be involved with something that interests them.
The second app that I chose was Magic Piano HD. This app automatically caught my eye because I am heavily involved with music. Basically the app is just a way for a kid to learn the basics of playing a piano without having to take music lessons, and without it being really serious. You can choose the shape of your piano whether it's spiral, or a circle. I think this app would be helpful in a music class specifically, just to give the kids a chance to explore a piano on their own, without it being really serious. This app could also be used as a way to introduce a new music lesson to catch the student's attention.

Double Entry Journal #10
QUOTE: With Scratch, students shift from media consumers to media producers, creating their own
interactive stories, games, and animations—then sharing their creations on the Web.
RESPONSE: I agree with this segment of the article. Before it talks about how people just waste their time on the web, just to surf, or to pass th time by. But with scratch, it gives people (kids) the opportunity to be creative and produce their own piece of work. And the work can be meaningful to them, or not, it is up to them. With the scratch program, it is a great chance for people to be the creator, and using logic as to when sound effects should take place, or when characters (Sprites) should move where.

This video is mainly about scratch, and how to work it. People are able to create their own types of works that are special to them in some way. Designed solely for them.

Double Entry Journal #8
Wikipedia is a "multilingual, Web-based encyclopedia project, operated by the Wikimedia Foundation, a nonprofit organization." In answering the question “How reliable can a source be when anyone can edit it?”, it's said even in the article that you can't really depend on it because it only works in "practice, so it can never work". The creators of Wikipedia put their fath in "the widom of crowds". They believe that having a lot people will help weed out errors, and vandalism sooner or later. Larry Spanger left Wikipedia because he believed it should give more authority ; and has created a new site called citizendium that does just that.
Abuse or vandalism on a wikipedia page would be like copyrighted stuff from other websites or rude opinionated things shared on the site. In the 3rd paragraph it reveals that the English Wikipedia published article number 2,000,000; and there are currently wikipdeias in more than 280 languages with a total of more than eight million articles. It's also revealed that the encyclopedia is among the top 10 most-visited sites on the internet around the world. I think Wikipedia is so successful because it's open to the public to add their information onto the site. Wikipedia's creators might not want to accept advertising because a lot of times, there is false advertising. Wikiscanner helps increase the reliability of Wikipedia entries by weeding out the ones that promote false advertising.
